The McDonald Fellowships 2025-26 is Fully Funded for low or middle income country by Multiple Sclerosis International Federation. The students who have Postgraduates degree are eligible for this fellowships. This fellowship will provide the financial benefits including monthly stipend, living cost and travelling cost. There is no application fee required for this fellowships.
The McDonald Fellowships will be available for the academic session of 2025-2026 to low or middle income country to work in research institution outside of their country. During the visit participants will gain expertise and carry out parts of joint research projects. Applicants will be able to use the newly developed expertise and networks, continuing to undertake MS research and patient care in low and middle income countries.
These research fellowships are of two types including one is awarded in partnership with ECTRIMS (European Committee for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis) and is known as the MSIF-ECTRIMS McDonald Fellowship. Another fellowship is awarded in partnership with ARSEP and is known as the MSIF-ARSEP McDonald Fellowship. The candidates are expected to return to their own countries at the end of the study period where they will contribute to advancing care and research in MS.
The McDonald fellowship may also be used to part fund a PhD programme where the candidate has already been accepted for the PhD programme in a recognized institute (within the six months prior to application) but who doesn’t have enough funding to cover the total cost.
Applicants must submit the application with sufficient time for the proposed host to read through the application and provide a supporting statement. It is advised to give at least two weeks for applicants host to complete this. Applicants must ask the referees to send a reference letter to research@msif.orgbefore the deadline.

Eligibility Criteria of McDonald Fellowships
There is general requirements for the eligibility criteria of McDonald Fellowships. Criteria is listed below:
- Applicants must be citizens of a low or middle income country (as defined by the World Bank).
- Applicant must be educated to Postgraduate (Ph.D. and Master’s) in an area related to multiple sclerosis.
- Must be the area of research will be relevant to multiple sclerosis.
- Working or studying in another country on a project which started within the six months prior to application.
- Studying in another country on a Du Pregrant project supported MSIF.
- Candidates who have excellent academic records will be preferred.
- Must be motivated and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Should be excellent communication and research skills.
- Applicants should be received an acceptance letter from McDonald.
